The Sorcery Code by Dima Zales is set back in the day when kings rule and the gifted are the higher class.  Some serious mathematics is the key to the higher class and some try everything in their power to keep it that way.  While others just want to help.  This is the first book in the series followed by The Spell Realm.

My favorite character would have to be Gala.  She is new to a strange place and is just trying to figure out where she fits in.  She is very compassionate but learns quickly that gets her unwanted attention.  Along with this I have a least favorite, Auguasta.  She judges this by only seeing half of the information.  Always sees the bad first and doesn’t stop to consider the good.  The characters all seem real, like they could actually exist somewhere.  I’m sure everyone wished at some point that they could do magic.

You never knew exactly what Gala would do next, she wasn’t that predictable.  My favorite part of the book is the big battle.  It was hard not to be scared and relieved at almost the same time.  I can’t say whether I laughed or cried during the book, but there were plenty of times I was scared for Gala.

I had to literally tell myself that I couldn’t read during the day, I had things that were piling up.  When I read at night I fought sleep so I could see what happened next.  Never worked, fell asleep with my reader still in my hand.

This was a very good book, even if I did lose a little sleep.  I can’t wait to read The Spell Realm.  If you like urban fantasy they you will love this book.  I would suggest this book for older teenagers and up.  I honestly can’t compare this to another book or series, haven’t read anything quite like this before.

Have you ever sat at the dinner table and asked your children how their day was.  My kids always tell me either good or fine and that is the end of the conversation.  It is like pulling teeth with them.  I am a stickler for eating together, but really how do you get your kids to talk.  That is when I read 50+ Questions to ask around the dinner table by Lisa Ruscyk.

This book has 5 questions as a starting point for conversations.  From there you can ask follow up question to whatever your child answers may be.  I put these questions on craft sticks in a small container on the table.  One of my children may pick a stick and usually the conversations last all during the meal.  They get excited now on what we will be talking about at dinner.

This book is $7.47.  I honestly do not believe it is worth that much. Although I love the conversations now at the dinner table, I just can’t see myself recommending this.

Sport In-ear Headphones

I have gone through so many earphones in the last year it really isn’t funny.  If I get a pair and end up not liking them, they go to my kids then the trash if they don’t like them.  I have tried blue tooth earphones and they just don’t feel right, always feels like they are going to fall out.  Then I came across at set from Yi-Tech, needless to say my kids don’t get this pair.

There are so many different things I like about these earphones.  I like how the earphones come with different tips, so we can choose which one best fits the canal.  They fit directly in the ear, which helps reduce outside noise.  The cord is relatively long.  This could be a good thing and a bad thing.  It’s good because I can still carry my phone in my back pocket and have plenty of room to turn my head.  There have been a couple times when I got to close to a chair or cabinet nob and it was pulled from my ear (this does not feel good).  I also found that it can make different apps open on my phone.  The sound is perfect though, my husband talks really low and I can’t hear him sometimes.  I actually have to turn the volume down when talking to him with the earphones in.  They have a slider adjuster and a clip. 

The earphones are $49.99 but are on sale for $18.99.  As much as I love these I wouldn’t pay the list price.  But if they were to stay under $20, I would get another pair if need.  I like the overall fit of these.  They take a bit to get used to but after that they are comfortable, although I don’t wear them that much when not in use because I can’t hear well out of the ear they are in.

I hate to say this but these lights are too cute.  The package comes with two lights, two extra batteries, two Velcro straps, and a screw driver. 

You can almost put them anywhere, or use them for anything. My first thought was of course putting them on the bike, but then other ideas started popping in my head as soon as I started playing with them. They are small enough to place on a dog collar. You could also use them during Halloween, since these are much brighter than the glow sticks. The lights have three different modes to choose from, just pick which one best suits the use of them.

Stainless Steel Water Bottle

Water bottles seem like a dime a dozen, they are found everywhere.  The trick is finding a good one that suits your needs.  I have searched and searched for a good quality water bottle.  I recently bought a subzero bottle from a different store (I like my water really cold).  I stopped using it after about a week due to excessive condensation.  I am so glad I found this water bottle from SteadyDoggie.

Casual Combat Boots

We all know what a pain shoe shopping can be.  Either the store does not have the right size in the style you like, or does not have the style.  With my foot being as small as it is, the size is the most frustrating thing for me.  Then there is the time that is spent trying to get the shoes comfortable to wear for an extending period of time.  ZooShoo has just made it so much easier to shop for shoes.

These boots are the best of both worlds.  They are combat books, but if worn with dress pants they are also elegant.  There was no “break in” time for these.  I actually forgot I was wearing them by the end of the first day.  I can even wear ankle socks with them and have no problems with rubbing on the top.  I like the inside zippers.  I can tie the laces once to a comfortable fit and never have to tie them again.  There are also outside zippers that open to a hidden pocket.  I thought these were just for decoration, but I was wrong.  The hidden pocket extends from the zipper down to the sole of the boot.  You can put just about anything in them, just be careful as it is on or near the ankle bone.  They are very easy to clean, all you really need is a damp rag to wipe off any dirt.

These boots are $26.  I would recommend them on the break in time alone.  I for one do not like blisters on my feet.  The hidden pockets are an added bonus.  One on each boot accommodates both left and right handed people.  I am so happy with these combat boots that I will be getting the tan ones as well.

This is $25 but is on sale for $18.95.  If I were to travel I would get this again.  It is worth the money to have my valuables in front of me instead of in my back pocket or a purse.  I just wish they had one for right handed people.  Even though it sounds funny, the side zipper should be on both sides; one for lefties and one for righties.  But it sure beats a fanny pack.

Carriet Smart Sticky Wallet

Have you ever wondered why women carry such big purses?  I wish I could answer that but even I have no clue.  I like to keep things simple and carry only what I need.  I carry only a wallet and a phone, both of which fit into my pockets.  But, there are times when even that is too much.  I have seen phone cases that double as a wallet but none of which fit my phone and they are only the newer phones.  Carriet has a wallet that attaches to any phone.

The Carriet wallet fits perfectly on my Galaxy Note 4.  The back is very sticky and it takes a lot to for it to come off the first time.  It still remains sticky after the first removal but it weakens the adhesive.  I am not sure how many times someone can remove it before it loses all of its stickiness.  I like the way it stretches to accommodate even odd shaped items, like my headphones.  When you place an ID card or money in the wallet you can shake it and they stay in place.  Personally I wouldn’t put those in there because if you leave or someone takes your phone then those are gone too.  I only put my headphones in there.  I tend to misplace those all the time.

This is $20 but is on sale for $11.95.  Honestly, at the regular price I wouldn’t buy it.  I am having difficulty even with the sales price.  I like the product don’t get me wrong and it is a good idea.  I just think maybe that is a little high.  With that said, if I lose the sticky on mine I do not think I will be replacing it.

Backseat Car Organizer

If you're like me and have kids, your back seat can be a war zone at times.  It takes a day to clean and you think to yourself where on Earth did all this come from.  I have had so many backseat organizers that they just didn't hold up to the job.  With four kids that need to be entertained just on short trips alone it can become taxing.  Fancy mobility has really out done all other organizers.

This not only comes with a backseat organizer but a visor organizer as well.  First let's talk about the visor organizer.  The main pocket actually goes the whole length.  I keep my insurance, registration, and inspection paperwork there.  I can hold more stuff there but I try not to clutter it so if by chance I do get pulled over I don't have to riffle through papers.  The smaller pocket can hold cards or anything small you need handy.  I use it sometimes for gift cards I need to reload or a business card that was handed to me.  There are two slots for pens (I only put one there for the picture).  I don't use that part because when the visor is up it doesn't go up all the way with the pen there.  I have ended up bumping my head on it a couple times.  For my car the visor organizer is a little big on the visor but I actually don't mind that because I am vertically challenged and it helps block the sun when it is first rising.  You can clean this when needed but it is hand wash only.

Onto the backseat organizer.  Talk about space and more space.  I actually just cleaned out my car the day before, so there aren't that many things in it but man does it have room.  The top pocket can either hold the travel bags or box of wipes.  Instead of the regular mesh pockets it actually has large cloth pockets that can hold even the oddest shapes of toys.  In front of those large pockets are smaller mesh pockets that can hold smaller toys.  A long pocket on the bottom can hold books or larger toys.  (Note: I had to put two pictures together)

Lego Compatible Baseplate (Green)

Oh man, have you seen how much one baseplate is from Lego.  They can range from $7 to almost $15.  That is just for one 10 inch by 10 inch baseplate.  So in order to make a Lego table 20x20 you would need four.  Luckily Brick Basic has a solution.

The plates I received were almost perfect, which have four in a pack.  I was honestly floored when I opened the package.  Mine had a slight (I'm talking almost unnoticeable) bend to them.  I plan on gluing them down anyways.  Some of the connectors on the top have a white spot on them.  Overall I am very impressed.  Now the big task is how to set up the table for my sons.

Regular price for this is $39.99 and is on sale for $22.99.  I would keep going this route because it is not only cheaper but it's a baseplate that if your child is an avid Lego builder like mine you won’t ever see the baseplates.  Let their imagination grow while you save some money.
